Tutoring for Secondary Students
Zest Education Centre provides tuition for Years 9 to 13 on a range of subjects in the New Zealand Secondary Curriculum from NCEA (Levels 1, 2 and 3) to CIE (Cambridge International Assessment Education) and IB (International Baccalaureate) level.
Our students are given every opportunity to succeed as we are not confined to any one form of teaching or learning. Instead, we provide individualised learning support/extension, in small groups of no more than 3 students or private 1:1 sessions, designed to maximise enjoyment, progress and results.
Our senior tutors are selected for their depth of knowledge and their ability to connect with teenagers, and we collaborate with our parents in a coaching capacity to assist our students to make the most of their learning and tuition sessions.
Parents are emailed a lesson summary after each session which enables you to keep in touch with your child’s learning journey. And it is also important for us to work in partnership with schools, in order to support the amazing work they do.
New Zealand’s National Certificates of Educational Achievement (NCEA) are national qualifications for senior secondary school students and enable students to gain credits from both traditional school curriculum subjects and alternative programmes.
These are specifically designed to ensure there is continuity between the different levels of the chosen course of subjects. NCEA also regularly assesses students to provide them feedback and an opportunity to improve their results, so they don’t just simply ‘fail’ after one bad exam or internal assessment. What’s also interesting is that NCEA is one of the few educational methods in the world which returns marked exams to students.
Our experienced NCEA tutors focus on individual subject areas, advice and support with Internals and assessments as well as exam preparation.

Cambridge International Assessment Education is the world’s largest provider of international education programmes and internationally recognised qualifications for ages 5 to 19.
CIE is part of the University of Cambridge and many schools in New Zealand offer this form of assessment to their students, as an alternative to NCEA. While both NCEA and CIE are recognised qualifications for University Entrance (both here in New Zealand and internationally), if a student is looking to attend an overseas University, we often recommend CIE.
With CIE, end-of-year external exams provide the final grade for your child, which are set and marked by Cambridge. Of course, this means there is a lot of pressure for those exams, and the ability to study is absolutely essential. Here at Zest, we have tutors specialising in the Cambridge curriculum who can provide tutoring support and study tips, as well as exam preparation.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a well-recognised international education programme, available for students aged 3 to 19. A school must be registered to teach the IB curriculum, and we work with several schools in New Zealand who provide the option of IB to their students.
If your child is studying the IB programme and would like tuition support, please contact us for more information.
