Insights from a previous student and former tutor

Ben shares the benefits he’s gained from both sides of being involved with Zest Education – as both a previous Zest student and a former Zest Tutor.

“I’m Ben – a previous student at Zest Education, a tutor for Zest for 4 years, and a 2023 graduate from the University of Auckland in Chemical and Materials Engineering.

I attended Zest as a student throughout primary, intermediate and high schools. I greatly benefitted from the expert knowledge of my maths, science and English tutors.

While a student at Auckland Grammar, a teacher made a statement that stood out to me – they believed that in their many years of teaching, that the curriculum had never been so challenging and so advanced. Despite this, the tutors at Zest were invaluable in helping me tackle these subjects. My tutors at Zest clarified complicated topics, guided me to correct solutions for complex questions, and ultimately facilitated my success in Cambridge IGCSE and A-Level courses.

To this day, the habit I made of proactively identifying questions I could not solve and working through them with a tutor has been the key to my success in studying engineering at the University of Auckland. The study habits I formed as a student at Zest have resulted in test and assignment scores at the top of my chemical engineering classes, achieving first-class honours.

I found it very rewarding, as a tutor at Zest for four years, to guide students through the subjects I once struggled with. Working with students with their own learning styles, strengths, and weaknesses and helping them reach their potential has been an amazing experience.”
